'Dear Mayor Covey, As much as we will mourn the loss of our city's beloved Mayor over this; we realize at the same time that that's not only selfish, but foolish and short sighted. You must know, as your loyal friends, we will continue to support you in all of your endeavors - even if it means losing you as it's for the greater good of our county and beyond. Please let us have the honor of supporting you by displaying a lawn sign at our home. Thank you for everything that you do!' - Dr. and Mrs. William T. Lynch

'I would hate to lose you as mayor of our Ferndale but I know you would bring the same conviction, loyalty and great vision to our county!'

Oakland County – A Democratic Agenda for Progress

The 25th District includes the City of Ferndale, the City of Hazel Park and the south portion of the City of Royal Oak.

August 2010

Dear Friends and Neighbors:

Craig Covey for Ferndale After serving the city and people of Ferndale for the past eleven years as a councilman and then mayor, I am attempting to take my ideas and energy to the next level, hoping to serve the people of Oakland County with the same kind of success. I hope you will join hundreds of your friends and neighbors in my effort to be your next Democratic Oakland County Commissioner. You have always been there for me.

Our district, which includes Hazel Park, Ferndale and a southern section of Royal Oak, has had Dave Coulter as an excellent county commissioner, and he is now running for state senate. I hope to carry on his forward thinking and progressive ideas and programs and I believe this is an excellent opportunity to take to a larger scale the innovative and fresh ideas that have worked so well in our part of the county.

Following are core values that I hold dear:
  • supporting public transit and smart growth policies
  • promoting green principles
  • discouraging urban sprawl
  • wise and frugal use of taxpayer funds
  • celebration of diversity
I think this county and our region can recover from the past difficult economic problems and can come back stronger than ever if we follow these kinds of progressive, modern ideas.

The Democratic primary for the 25th District County Commission will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Registered voters who wish to consider voting for me that day may do so. I need your help again.

Together we can continue to show this region a new way of doing things.
  • smart and green policies
  • promoting renewal over sprawl
  • supporting regionalism
  • being inclusive so that diversity strengthens us;
Join me with a vote, endorsement, or lawn sign. And thanks for being a caring and engaged member of our community.

Craig Covey
Mayor, City of Ferndale
Democratic Candidate, Oakland County Commissioner

Endorsements

"The Sierra Club of Michigan endorses Craig Covey for the 25th district Oakland County Commission Democratic primary, in recognition of his many years of hard work and efforts at protecting the environment and supporting our mission."

Dr. Dennis Paulson, Pastor of United Methodist Church talks about Craig Covey.

It is rare that we find an individual who dedicates himself to public service, both by leadership in public office, and by personal sacrifice and attention to the needs of others in private and usually unknown gifts of care, service, and empowerment of "the least of these" among us. Craig Covey is such a person. He has persevered over a lifetime, in professional, and public service, to demonstrate what it means to be a neighbor, and to contribute to one's community. Oakland County will be well served with Commissioner Covey participating in it's circle of leadership.

Craig Covey Wins 25th District County Commission seat with over 60% of the vote!

I’m excited to now take the ideas that have been so successful in Ferndale to the county level. Green policies, urban gentrification, mass transit, and the inclusion and embracing of our diverse population can help restore Oakland County as the strong, vibrant, and attractive place it should be for our generation and future generations to come.

Thank you, to all my volunteers, you made it possible!! A huge victory."

Covey Best for Commission

South Oakland Eccentric Newspaper

Voters in the 23rd and 25th County Commission districts have an opportunity Aug. 3 to select two Democratic candidates with fresh ideas as current county commissioners in those districts make a bid for higher office in the primary election.

The two we are recommending — Tim Wirkus in the 23rd District and Craig Covey in the 25th District — bring a mix of ideas and skills that can only be healthy. Great minds may think alike, but that just means they think the same things. South Oakland County residents will be well served by both men.
